I've been thinking to modify the mains power inlet arrangement on my SJT400 so that the supply cable isn't permanently attached but instead to install a panel-mount, figure-eight type inlet and have a matching cord. I've already done this with two laserdisc players and a high-end 8-track player. I thought that after removing the top cover I'd have immediate access to the circuit board on which the incoming power supply is wired and which I'm assuming is the same board as the RF in/out and A/V out. However, I find that the board lies under the turntable platform assembly so I'm assuming that access to this is from the base of the unit. Can anyone advise the best way to access where I want to go or maybe should I not attempt to go there at all?
By the way, thanks to Rixrex concerning the bumper pad I posted about a short while ago. It is in fact the one normally located as suggested on the top of the upper receiver spindle. I guess that since manufacture, the original adhesive utilized back then has broken down over time. Also as suggested superglue would seem to be the best way to remount the pad.

Well, you can always remove the bottom metal cover for access. You'll see it is held on by screws underneath.

Another option may be to attach an input plug to the back where the cord enters as there looks like there is enough of an indent there to do that.

If I were doing this type of mod, I'd use those cords that have the square/round end, that way polarization of the plug can be maintained.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give them a try. There are two types of flush, panel-mount inlets (commonly referred to as figure of eights): one is polarized and the other non-polarized. To avoid potential problems I always use the polarized type and maintain polarity as originally wired. AC cords for either type are readily available from Radioshack among other suppliers. All I can see when I see those plugs is playstation! I have 40 of those damn cords to fit that plug haha!
