The much anticipated CED / VCR score happened today. The Zenith is in good shape and actually works! I had to take a disc out which had been left inside, but once I put another disc in, it spun right up and played fine. I watched H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds" which was a riot. Science fiction sure has come a long way!

There is a variety of movies- anything from "Singing in the Rain" to "Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan" to "Dirty Harry". As far as I know, they're all original owner. All the labels are in very good shape, and the discs I've played so far have played well.

The VCR is another story. It's a Selectavision VKP926T, a top loading convertible model. It's definitely seen better days. The idler tire is hard as a rock, the tuner section won't change channels, and the clock keeps turning on it's own- advancing one hour every second. I pressed play and could hear motors turning, so perhaps with new rubber and some lube, it could work again, at least for playback anyway. Does anyone know where I could get belts and an idler tire for it?

All in all, I'm excited, and looking forward to watching more CEDs.

-Jon

Selectavision420,
You beat me to it! I was just going to ask about that site. I just search for "VCR Parts" on google, and that site came up. I see they also have belts for my Zenith side loader. That one's still working, but it's nice to know I'll have support for it.

I have two of those "convertable" RCA selectavision VHS decks. They both yop load, and have a tape deck and tuner that separate so that the tape deck can be taken outside woth a video camera. Top loading of course.

One deck is black and the other silver, and both need new belts and rubber wheel. Both did work and should work again with these parts replaced and have no tuner issues. Anyone who wants either one can just pay the shipping and can have the unit free.

I've already got one VHS *not RCA but Panasonic Omnivision and a Sears BETAMAX convertible similar to that as well as a couple camera units and a Sony Beta playback-only deck (?) with linear stereo sound available, and 3 or four fuil sized VHS camcorders, working and non, three 8mm camcorders (2 Sony and a Sharp palm sized unit with an LCD monitor on back just like Dad's old VHS-C, right down to being able to flip the picture when you reoriented it and on screen menus). No to mention an early monstrously large and heavy Zenith Movie Director that is a rebadged Sony, SL-600HF and -2000HF and a Sanyo 4500 from around '83-'84 and maybe 3 of the Beta units are working althought the player has an obvious short in the drum.

I used to own a Sony Watchman GV-200 I think the model was but it was only a monitor and TV although you could have hooked it up with a mini-jack where the antenna unit attached for many uses. The set used a special CRT with a very wide deflection angle, a neck that went down sideways and uniquely curved screen *inward that allowed it to be very thin and not rely on a long straight neck. This was before the digital changeover although the tuner was a weak thing unless you held the antenna.

Sorry for the delay. I just checked in the store-room.

The silver on eis a VJP-900T

The black one is a VKP-900T

If you want either one or both, just pay shipping only. I will ship them together if you want both, so you get a better rate.

Also, I have a Magnavox VR 8465 SL 01 portable unit top loader. It's a bit smaller than the RCA ones but needs servicing, and has a remote.

wow thats quite an offer... thats got to be like almost 50 lbs on shipping? josh is sending me 2 vtr units and if i can get one of the 2 working for him, i can have the other one for parts, but i dont know if the parts ill get will be what i get... are you trying to get rid of them asap? i think i would get them regardless of my situation, these models are getting really hard to find... depending if i can swing the shipping... the vkp900 would be awesome if i can get it working

That's probably close to correct on the weight. They are a little heavier and heftier that the regular VCRs.

I have plenty of VCRs around, vintage and newer, and no need for this model, no camera or such to use with them either. I guess I'm not in a big hurry, but would like them gone by April of next year, or they have to go to the electronics recycler. We have to have the storeroom empty by then.

Okay, the units don't weigh as much as I though. Both together in one box is going to be about 42 lbs total. One by itself would likely be around 24 lbs.

They would come from zip code 92530, so you can go online and find the best shipping. My experience has been Fedex is most reasonable.

I love the old SciFi movies, they can be a bit campy, but I love them, Village of the Damned, War of the Worlds, Logans Run......They are all fun to watch. There is one that I can't finish, it is just so bad, Saturn 3 Kirk Douglas & Farrah Fawcett? It is probably the worst movie I have ever seen, except for Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!!!!
