At the workshop this year, I made a comment that If I put a disc into my SGT-250 and it skips, I can put it into my SJT-400 and it doesn't skip! I have done it more than once. At first I figured maybe the skip had cleared up, but when I put it back into the 250, it skips. Almost everyone there said there is no difference, or there SHOULDN'T be. I have a disc. (Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore) When I put it in my 250, it plays like it is fast forward mode. I tried it in my Zenith that was hooked u to a different TV, and it did the same thing. When I put it in my 400, it plays perfectly. If I have a disc that skips on all the other players, it plays perfectly in the 400. I'm not saying every skip is cleared up. I'm just saying I can tell a difference between players. Has anyone else ever noticed this?

I have noticed this as well. The 400 always seemed to me to be a better player in general for the best playback.

Supposedly there shouldn't be such a difference, but the reality is that every time a new generation of equipment is manufactured, this new generation will include improvements over the old. Some of these improvements come in circuity, so the hardware may be the same, but the overall effect is a better piece of equipment. Sometimes even only a small, minor improvement can be seen as a big difference in the end result.

The same can be seen in VCRs and laserdisc, where later models provide superior playback.
