will it let you do a rapid search forward? see if you can get it to fast forward and see if it will show picture or anything... the stylus might not be coming down far enough to touch the disc, if the P flashes it is in pause, which means the stylus is hovering over the disc but not transmitting information. _________________ Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350),sft100,sgt250,sjt090,100,101,200,300,400,vp550, VP4000!

Could be the PAUSE button is stuck in on position. Sometimes a victim of sticky fingered grime working its way into the button, or even the whole touch switch being faulty.
Might try cleaning the PAUSE button and see if it loosens up. There is the button itself on the case, and then there's the touch switch located on the player chassis. Either one could be the problem. Best to remove the case/cover when doing this. Plus that gives you a chance to test it without the button being in the way. |

Question before I do that though - when it is flashing "P" and I press the play / pause button, it goes to two red lines - any input before I disassemble?

Okay, if you press play and it goes to the two dashes, and then press again, and go to P, for pause, then it is NOT a stuck button. That indicates proper operation of the button, and your problem lies elsewhere. The double dashes usually indicate that the disc is not being read,
The cause of this could be any one of a number of things, like worn, dirty or missing stylus, improper set down adjustment, slipping or loose servo belt, landing latch misalignment, etc, etc.
Become familiar with the causes of this by reading the CED Player Repair Solutions page items pertaining to your model of player before doing any sort of work on it. You can see that here:
