This hasn't been done in a while, so with the new people having joined us I was wondering HOW MANY CED PLAYERS DO YOU HAVE? HOW MANY DISCS HAVE YOU IN YOUR COLLECTION?
I'm currently proud owner of 13 working players, and one that I don't know how to fix. I currently have about 1100 CEDs in my library. What about you? |

Ok, newbie here. I have a working 100w, a 75 and a hybrid on the way from Rick, and a hitachi vip1000 that I'm trying to bring back to life with new belts. With the help of Tony, eBay, and maybe even Scott I'm up too 78 disks in less than 3 months. And I'm about to put in another order from Tony and Scott.. More, more, more... _________________ SFT 100

I have around 110 different movies, and 7 players. Four of those players need repaired. My favorite machine is my SGT-200 because its in flawless shape, goes with my other electronics and is amazingly quiet for a CED player _________________ 2 - RCA SFT-100

The STG-200 is my second favorite player, it is one (tiny) step down from the SGT-250. They look very similar, except the 250 has no woodgrain, and has done away with the lever. You put the disc in, and it loads itself. It also was the first player to use an infra red remote. _________________ SGT-250

Of the four that need fixed:
2- SKT-090's. They both need function belts.
1- SFT-100 It has a lot of issues, I've been using it for parts. I took the stylus and loading cam out to use in my SGT-200.
1- Realistic CED-1. Again, it needs belts.
I plan to have all working except the SFT-100 once I get into some extra money to get belts. _________________ 2 - RCA SFT-100

The belts from Tom here are really inexpensive, so it's a good idea to get those players up and working if that's all it is. The CED1 is a really nifty styled player in my opinion and one of my favorites.
The 090s are great for pre-playing a disc you get that has sat a long time, to knock off any dust and clean up the grooves. It's also a good machine to watch them on if you have a CRT set with RF input only or you just want to use RF input. Some sets give a better picture on RF for CEDs than the A/V input.
I guess the parts player will just always be that. |

I'm almost 100% positive that mine has nipper on it. If it does, we can trade covers. Its a parts machine, that's what its for!
I will get it out of my closet in the next couple days and email you some pictures of it. I remember it being in overall good condition, but I never really looked at it closely to be honest. _________________ 2 - RCA SFT-100

Yeah, the belts are inexpensive here, I will be ordering soon.
The CED-1 is a really neat machine; its so different than the other ones. That is the one I am fascinated the most with at the moment. Its so different than the RCA machines. It did perplex me at first though; I couldn't find the power button. I didn't know you just put the disk in and it magically came on. I had to look that one up
That was my plan with the 090's, just use them as pre-play machines for disks.
I guess I'm lucky with my Sharp TV, my SGT-200 looks simply amazing on it using the AV cables. _________________ 2 - RCA SFT-100

i like these hitachi chassis because the insertion of the disc turns them on _________________ (2)Sears 274 & 934(80150,10&11350), sft100, sgt250, sjt 090-400, vp550, VDR3000, VP2000 & 4000

Yep, that's what I have for my newer set, a Sharp Aquos. It was the best of all the newer sets for viewing CEDs, LDs and VHS that I checked out, and that included Sony, Panasonic and Pioneer. I just passed on by any Vizio or LG sets.
Other than that we have two CRT sets, Sony Wega XBR HD direct view, and Pioneer HD elute 64" rear projector, and both are great for both the old formats and new HD stuff. |

Yes, when I talk about my CED-1 I am referring to the Hitachi chassis. The CED-1 is simply a Hitachi re-badged under RadioShacks house brand "Realistic"
Also, my Sharp TV is a CRT, I haven't bought a HDTV yet and I don't plan to. But its good to know that Sharp is still making TV's, because this one has been great. _________________ 2 - RCA SFT-100

CRT production is really only being done in China for their own market mostly, with very little CRTs made available for the US home consumer. There's still many uses for CRTs in specialty fields, like Medical.
I still own two pf the best CRTs ever made, the Sony HD XBR Wega, which went as large as 40", and the Pioneer Elite RP CRT, both great sets.
But their coming eventual demise led me to research many models of newer TVs, the better quality ones, and with an LD plyaer in hand, I took to major showrooms to test the old format on the new sets.
The Sharp Aquos was the one that performed the best for the old formats. It was impressively better than the others, and as good as any CRT I owned and most likely better overall.
LCDs and LEDs fared the best and the worst were the Plasma sets. The plasma sets just magnified the innate resolution deficiencies of the older formats, whereas the others did not. The Aquos gave me the best picture image delineation, or sharpness, along with really good color and contrast like you'd expect on a CRT.
I think it's great to watch the older formats on a CRT, and there were quite a few in the 36" and 40" range that are now really cheap, but I have no problem with my modern set, and it is a lot lighter. |

I currently have 2 players, an SKT-400 and SJT-400 both work great. My collection currently consists of 250 movies not including dupes, empty caddys, and movies with only part 1 or 2.
Rix- I too have a Sharp Aquos, a 46" lcd and it does look really nice with laser or CED. Especially after I had the thing calibrated. Very smooth picture. My main tv is a 73 Mits DLP and it also shows a very nice picture with both. The onboard noise reduction circuitry does a good job of cleaning up without loss of detail. _________________ SKT-400

Tony, which Nipper are you referring to? Darrel has a ton of those old players he was selling for parts. I'm sure he prolly has one of them for the SFT-100. If you don't make a deal here that is:) _________________ SGT-250

You number of discs is scary! Why? Because I count the exact same number in my collection! I thought I had closer to 1100, but I printed off the alphabetical list from this site and went through ever single disc I own, it came out to be 980!
ALRIGHT WHICH ONE OF YOU SNEAKED INTO MY CED ROOM AND SWIPED THE OTHER 120? _________________ SGT-250
