i put my new in box player next to a used sjt 300, and i noticed, that the old player had parts that the newer one didnt, whats up with that?

Yeah, some of the players made earlier had two added "platforms" on the sides that spring out of the way at a certain point in the cycle.

Seems that they were later dropped as being unnecessary, or maybe because they might malfunction and damage a disc. But you can still see the indents for them in the players that don't have them.

A player I was sent for fixing has these, but the player malfunctioned and not only shattered a disc but also broke the caddy catches at the rear.

Watch both players cycling through a disc play and you'll see what they do.

so its a good thing it doesnt have the then?
