The stylus still seems fine when playing other discs. When I play the discs that I will be listing soon (probably as a lot) they all play exactly as expected.

I was not actually aware of the silicone. Wouldn't that be drying out by now though? Could that be why this method HAS worked? Maybe I simply removed dried out silicone coating?

The spring was in the stylus arm. You get to it by removing the cartridge, remove the two Philips head screws on either end of the slot, remove the plastic, and the spring will be in plain site closer ...
